Pianist, Teacher, Music Director, Accompanist, Composer, & Arranger

 

Christopher Hewitt is a freelance pianist and music director who bases himself in the greater Bay Area. He recently graduated from the University of the Pacific, cum laude, in Piano Performance. Christopher actively teaches piano and voice, accompanies at several churches, and also plays weddings, funerals, and private parties. Christopher works as accompanist at the American Conservatory Theatre (ACT) in San Francisco. An active pit orchestra musician, Christopher has played over 30 shows in the last 10 years, taking a brief reprieve from shows during his time at University. Recently, Christopher was the Associate Music Director and Conductor of New Conservatory Theatre Center’s production of “Avenue Q” in a stunning, sold out 2 month run. Christopher also has a passion for composition and arranging, and has collaborated with many musicians on his projects. Christopher has Music Directed three shows in San Francisco, all of which were both well received. He has his debut album on iTunes, “Time of Tranquility”, released in 2013, and also released a sacred album of piano/cello/voice with Rhett Roberts entitled “Revelation”, also available on iTunes.

Christopher is the primary organist at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Concord, CA, and enjoys working with Kathleen Flemming, choir director, with whom Christopher studied piano in 2006-2008, who provided a huge inspiration to pursue music in his career. Prior to his post at Good Shepherd, Christopher was the primary pianist and organist at the Cathedral of Annunciation in Stockton, CA, where he worked for 7 years. Christopher has also been the Saturday mass accompanist at Holy Cross Church in Linden, CA since 2012. Christopher is very passionate about teaching piano and voice, and teaches students in Antioch, Brentwood, and Stockton. With nearly 10 years of teaching experience, Christopher wishes to instill in his instruction a love of music that will carry with his students throughout their whole lives. Christopher has taught students as young as 4 years old and well into adulthood. It is never too late to learn the art of piano!

An active accompanist, Christopher was the accompanist for the prestigious Modesto Symphony Orchestra Chorus from 2013-2015, accompanying the 130 singers under the direction of Dr. Daniel Afonso, Jr. In his two seasons as choral accompanist, the chorus put on spectacular concerts of holiday music, the Brahms “Requiem”, and Vaughan Williams’ “A Sea Symphony”. Christopher was accompanist for Heritage High School in Brentwood for 6 years, and has also accompanied the Contra Costa Children’s Chorus of Lafayette, the Sonora Master Chorale, and the Pine Cone Singers of Groveland.

Christopher has received instruction in solo piano, collaborative arts, and chamber music all over the world. He attended the Prague Piano Institute in 2010 & 2011, working with such artists as Eugene & Elisabeth Pridonoff, and also the Orfeo Music Festival in Vipiteno/Sterzing, Italy in 2012, working with Natsuki Fukasawa, Richard Cionco, and Michael L. Rickman. At National Music Festivals over the years, Christopher has had the privilege of working with Peter Takacs, Norman Krieger, and Gwendolyn Mok at Idyllwild Summer Arts Academy, the International Music Institute and Festival, and the Brevard Music Center Institute, among others. At the University of the Pacific, Christopher’s primary teacher was renowned concert pianist, Frank Wiens, additional studies with Dr. Rex Cooper and Dr. Sonia Leung. Christopher studied voice with Dan Ebbers, piano accompaniment with Dr. John Cozza, and studied chamber music under Dr. Patricia Shands, Igor Veligan, and Thomas Derthick.

Right now, Christopher’s focus in music is as a dedicated private teacher, church musician, freelance music director, accompanist for choruses, singers, and instrumentalists, and to work on his own music and compositions. A new solo album is in the works with a hopeful release for 2017!
